Biblical Bistro:
An ancient Judean dining experience

The Background

The Bible is a foundational cultural asset passed down through generations. Yet traditional methods of Bible study aren’t always inspiring, and they can be perceived as outdated or not particularly engaging.

The Challenge

How do you make the Bible more accessible and bring its stories to life in a way that is original, engaging, and participatory?

Our Process

We designed “Biblical Bistro,” a workshop where participants experienced biblical periods through food, flavors, and cooking techniques. The menu was based entirely on ingredients mentioned in the Bible and available in the region at the time: wheat, barley, grapes, olives, dates, lentils, fish, herbs, and more. To keep it authentic, we intentionally excluded foods that arrived in the region later, such as tomatoes, potatoes, and chili peppers, and limited cooking methods to those that existed in biblical times. Throughout the workshop, we explored selected biblical texts and experienced them through all five senses.

The Result

Participants reported that this sensory, hands-on experience completely transformed their learning. By bringing the text to life, they were able to change their perspective on these ancient writings in an instant. For many, it created a new, emotional connection to the Bible and gave them a fresh way to relate to the stories of our past.
